V. The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary,
R. And she conceived by the Holy Spirit.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
V. Behold the handmaid of the Lord.
R. Be it unto me according to Your word.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
V. And the Word became flesh,
R. And dwelt among us.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
V. Let us pray.
We thank You, O Lord, that through the message of an angel You made known to us the Incarnation of Your Son.
Grant that through His Passion and Cross we may be brought to the glory of His Resurrection; through the same
Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
About the Angelus
The Angelus is a Western devotion that recounts the mystery of the Incarnation three times daily. This Lutheran form keeps the historic versicles and responses while concluding with thanksgiving that confesses Christ as the sole mediator between God and man.
He became what we are that He might make us what He is.— Athanasius, On the Incarnation 54
