Study Resources

Reference works that back your devotional life with Scripture, the Confessions, and the fathers.

The Lutheran Study Bible (together with the Apocrypha volume) is recommended for primary use, offering faithful Lutheran commentary and the complete deuterocanonical books. Additional study Bibles provide insights from the other historic Christian traditions. For deeper Old Testament study, the Septuagint is especially valuable. As an older textual witness and the Bible of the early Church, the Septuagint often preserves readings superior to the later Masoretic tradition and stands as the source most frequently quoted in the New Testament, making it central to understanding how the early church received the Scriptures.
